Selecting the Area and Orientation

When matching colors on smaller areas within pages, select the same area and orientation. This procedure improves the quality of color reproducibility over the selected areas.

To select the area and orientation:

  1. Print the PDF source file to obtain the reference sample.
    1. Select the printer on which to execute color matching.
    2. Print the PDF source file using the required print settings. For information about the print settings, see Printing the Reference Sample Using Fiery, Printing the Reference Sample Using TotalFlow Print Server with a Cut Sheet Printer or Printing the Reference Sample Using the RICOH Pro VC80000.
        Important:
      • Do not reduce or enlarge the document when printing.
  2. In the RICOH Auto Color Adjuster dialog, select Color Sample Matching.
    The Color Sample Matching dialog is displayed.
      Note:
    • Operate the items displayed in the Color Sample Matching dialog from left to right.
  3. If you have the saved hard copy sample data, load it.
    1. Select Load.
    2. In the Select Folder dialog, select the folder containing the saved hard copy sample data.
    3. Click Select Folder.
      The specified area from the PDF file and hard copy sample are displayed in the Color Sample Matching dialog.
  4. If you do not have a saved hard copy sample, scan it.
    1. In the PDF Source File section, click Select File.
    2. In the Select PDF Source File dialog, select the PDF file containing the image of the hard copy sample.
      The image from the selected file is displayed in the PDF Source File section.
    3. In the PDF Source File section, select Select Area.
    4. To change the orientation of the image, select Rotate Counterclockwise or Rotate Clockwise.
    5. To select the area, click a corner of the area and drag it diagonally.Selecting the area

    6. Select OK.
      The image of the area and orientation selected in the PDF Source File section is displayed.
    7. Place the hard copy sample page on the paper input tray, with the side to scan facing up. For details, see Placing a Sample or Color Chart on the Input Tray.Placing the color sample on the input tray
    8. In the Hard Copy Sample section, select the paper size of your hard copy sample. If you select Custom Size, enter the paper length along the sub-scan direction in the Sub-Scan Length field.
        Important:
      • A paper jam might occur if you select a paper size that differs from the paper size of the hard copy sample you want to scan.
    9. In the Hard Copy Sample section, select Scan.
      When the scanning is complete, the image matching the area selected in the PDF Source File section is displayed in the Hard Copy Sample section.
    10. To change the selected area of the image, select the Select Area button in the Hard Copy Sample section, and then select the area again. Use the same procedure as described in step , substeps from 4.3 through 4.6.
  5. Place the printed reference sample on the paper input tray, with the printed side facing up.
  6. In the Printed Reference Sample section, select the size of the printed reference sample. If you select Custom Size, enter the paper length along the sub-scan direction in the Sub-Scan Length field.
      Important:
    • A paper jam might occur if you select a paper size that differs from the paper size of the sample you want to scan.
  7. In the Printed Reference Sample section, select Scan.
    When the scanning is complete, the image matching the area selected in the PDF Source File section is displayed in the Printed Reference Sample section.
  8. To change the selected area of the image, select Select Area in the Printed Reference Sample section, then select the area again. Use the same procedure as described in step , substeps from 4.3 through 4.6.
