Configuring InfoPrint Manager with the InfoPrint 5000 to print AFP

The InfoPrint 5000 is a high-speed, high quality, full-color digital printer that you can submit jobs to through InfoPrint Manager. The InfoPrint 5000 system processes and prints high quality color AFP output at high speeds. It also processes and prints PDF or PostScript documents that include high resolution color images.

The InfoPrint 5000 combines job management and page-level error recovery capabilities with the ability to print full-color applications and documents. This printer can support applications that use data formats, such as Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), and Portable document format (PDF), as resources for variable data AFP documents. The AFP architecture lets you use the Rasterized Image Processor (RIP) to process these resources in the printer controller and save them in the printer. This capability improves performance by eliminating the need to re-RIP these resources. It is not necessary to convert single page PDF and EPS, objects to color images before sending them to the printer. These objects can be RIPped directly in the printer controller, increasing performance.

Significant processing demands are placed on the InfoPrint Manager system when it is preparing and sending print jobs to an InfoPrint 5000. Therefore, you should dedicate one Linux server entirely to your InfoPrint 5000; this system should only contain one InfoPrint Manager server, and it should only send print jobs to one InfoPrint 5000.
