Pausing a job that is printing

When you use this procedure, InfoPrint Manager stops the job, verifies if the paused job is currently printing, and collects checkpoint information about the job if it is. The job shows on the GUI as Paused. Assuming that the operator does not take actions that invalidate the checkpoint information when the job is resumed, it should restart at the checkpoint boundary. If the checkpoint information is invalidated, the job restarts with page 1 unless the operator changes the page range before resuming the job. An example of an action that would invalidate the checkpoint information is changing job attributes, so that the job would have to be re-ripped before printing.
  1. Open the InfoPrint Manager Operations GUI or the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI.
  2. Find the job that you want to pause and select it.
  3. Click either Job → Pause → Now or Job → Pause → After current copy.
Note: If the Pause item does not appear in the Job menu, use Add/Remove Menu Items to add it.
  4. Click OK.
The job stops printing, the icon changes to black, and the job is listed in the job window of the main InfoPrint Manager GUI window.
  5. To resume printing this job, click Job → Resume.
    Important:
  • If the printer has a functional problem such as a paper jam, the print data in the IPDS printer buffers is no longer printed. The printer does not process the Pause command until the data already sent has been processed. This situation might be viewed as a Web GUI freeze.

To solve this issue, you can either:

    • Resolve the functional problem and then the printer resumes printing.
    or:
    • Send a Hold command instead of Pause, because the Hold command discards the IPDS buffers and puts the job in a hold state in InfoPrint Manager. For more information, see Stopping the job.
