Working with the Windows Firewall

To work with the Windows Firewall on the InfoPrint Manager for Windows server:
  1. Go to StartControl PanelWindows Firewall, and the Windows Firewall dialog appears.
      Note:
    1. When the Windows Firewall is active, the Firewall pop-up windows appears every time an unsolicited request is received by your computer from the network or Internet. These pop-up windows ask you to allow access to programs or services that are not yet on the Exceptions list. If you choose to allow them access, the exception is saved in the exception list, and from that moment, all requested from that program or service are accepted.
    2. Microsoft recommends that you define a program or service exception, rather than opening a port.
  2. Leave the On (recommended) radio button selected to use the Windows Firewall, or click Off (not recommended) to turn off the Windows Firewall.
  3. Click Exceptions to add or remove the programs and services for which you want to change the access to your computer through the Internet or a network. Make sure that you deselect Do not allow exceptions.
    1. You can either use the Windows Firewall pop-up windows or the Windows Firewall Exceptions tab to give these programs or services access:
      • If you are running the InfoPrint Manager server, define an exception for the pdserver.exe and the notifyd.exe.
      • If you are running the InfoPrint Manager IPP Gateway, define an exception for the ippgw.exe.
      • If you are running the InfoPrint Manager LPD service, define an exception for the lpd.exe.
      • If you are running InfoPrint ManagerMVS Download receivers, define an exception for the mvsprsd.exe.
      • If you are running DPF Host Receivers, define an exception for the aindpfhr.exe.
      • If you have installed the InfoPrint Manager SAP Print feature:
        • And you are running the SAP Callback processes, define an exception for the sapcbd.exe.
        • And your SAP system is running on HP-UX or Sun Solaris, define an exception for rshd.exe.
    2. Define an exception for File and Printer Sharing for these situations:
      • If you are using Hot Folders or the Windows Gateway to accept jobs from other machines.
      • If you are using the Submit Express client from the InfoPrint Manager Common Client DVD.
      • If you are using interoperating InfoPrint Manager servers.
  4. After a program or a service is added to the Exceptions list, you can edit and change the scope of the exception to use IP trust and allow clients to connect to the server from any computer, subnet network, or specific IP/mask by clicking the appropriate radio button.
  5. To create a security log from the Windows Firewall, click Settings on the Security Logging section of the Windows Firewall Advanced tab.
  6. The Log Settings dialog appears.

The default log is C:\Windows\pfirewall.log, and it identifies what connections were dropped or successful, depending on the custom settings that you select.

  7. To restore the default settings of the firewall, go to Advanced Tab on the Windows Firewall dialog and click Restore Defaults.
