PSF Other-Driver printer

Create a PSF other-driver actual destination to represent a PCL printer that receives data streams transformed by PSF through a Windows port monitor.

Note: The InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI calls a PSF other-driver actual destination or printer, a PSF other printer.

Before you create a PSF other-driver printer, you must create a Windows port that InfoPrint Manager will use to communicate with the printer. Use the InfoPrint Manager Management Console to create a Windows port with these steps:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Programs → InfoPrint Manager → Management Console.
  2. Select Edit → New → Windows Port.
  3. In the Create Windows Port dialog, select the appropriate port monitor for your printing environment from the pull-down list and click OK.

For example, if you are using an InfoPrint network-attached workgroup printer, such as the InfoPrint 2190, as a non-IPDS printer, you should use the InfoPrint TCP/IP Network Port Monitor.

Note: The port monitor that you select determines the next dialog to appear.

Before creating a PSF other-driver printer, complete this worksheet.

Model On either a Windows or an AIX server, select the printer model from the pull-down list in the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI.

If the printer you are working with is not in the pull-down list, enter the name as it appears on the printer; or if the printer is SNMP-enabled, you can select Set by SNMP printer.

SNMP TCP/IP address The IP address used to access this printer. This value is used only for SNMP printers.
Device or Windows port name The name of the output device that the selected actual destination represents.
Printer command The printer command that submits a job to this remote destination. On a Windows system, leave this column blank.

To create this type of printer, use the Create Printer Wizard in the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI. (On the menu bar, click Printers → Create → PSF → Other.)

Note: If Other is not shown in the Printer → Create → PSF menu, use Printer → Add/Remove Menu Items to add it.

PSF other-driver printer worksheet provides the information that the wizard prompts for. When a PSF Other-Driver printer is created, a Windows Passthrough printer is created automatically. Therefore, the Windows Generic/Text printer driver is required. If you have not installed the Windows Generic/Text Printer driver before, you must install it by following the installation instructions in "Passthrough printer".

See the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI online help for more assistance.

If you did not enable the printer with the Create Printer Wizard, use the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI to enable it.
