Allowed Values

You can enter one of these fixed values:

Fixed Value Input Synonym
true yes
false no
Note: If your physical printer has a time-out setting, make sure it is disabled when you specify True or Yes for wait-for-job-completion.

Default Value

true when the printer and backend support PJL USTATUS; or false when the printer or the backend do not support PJL USTATUS.

Usage Guidelines

  • This attribute can be used to activate or deactivate reporting of job completion.
  • There is a performance trade-off when you use this attribute: if you choose true, your printer performance might be reduced slightly; and when you choose false , the job completion messages might be premature or inaccurate.
  • This attribute can be used to activate or deactivate reporting of job completion.
Note: There is a backend program called pioinfo for use with printers that can be used in place of the piojetd backend program. For example, destination-command=/usr/lpd/pio/etc/pioinfo ip_address, where ip_address is the ip address of the printer.
  • The pioinfo backend obtains status from the printer through the PJL commands.
  • If your physical printer does not support nested PJL JOB commands, use the pioinfo backend and add these flags to the printer command: '-w' on AIX and 'enable-ustat-count' on Linux.

    Using hostname (recommended):

    • On AIX: printer-command=/usr/lib/lpd/pio/etc/pioinfo example.domain.com -w

    • On Linux: printer-command=pioinfo://example.domain.com enable-ustat-count

    Using IPv4:

    • On AIX: printer-command=/usr/lib/lpd/pio/etc/pioinfo 9.99.99.51 -w

    • On Linux: printer-command=pioinfo://9.99.99.51 enable-ustat-count

    Usng IPv6:

    • On AIX: printer-command=/usr/lib/lpd/pio/etc/pioinfo 2001:0ce8:58a3:0000:0000:6a2e:0370:3734 -w or printer-command=/usr/lib/lpd/pio/etc/pioinfo 2001:0ce8:58a3:0000:0000:6a2e:0370:3734 9100 -w

    • On Linux: printer-command=pioinfo://[2001:0ce8:58a3:0000:0000:6a2e:0370:3734] enable-ustat-count or printer-command=pioinfo://[2001:0ce8:58a3:0000:0000:6a2e:0370:3734]:9100 enable-ustat-count

  • For more information about using wait-for-job-completion, see “Accurate job completion in the AIX DSS” in the InfoPrint Manager for AIX: Getting Started.
  • For CUPS and PSF Other-Driver on Linux, the pioinfo backend and the piorpdm backend for Ricoh printers provide job completion status and job accounting information. For example destination-command=pioinfo://ip_address or destination-command=piorpdm://ip_address where ip_address is the ip address of the printer.
