Matching Colors and Creating a Profile

Match the golden sample colors to the colors of the reference sample image displayed in the Before Color Matching section, and then create an ICC profile.

To match colors and create a profile:

  1. Check the profile that was selected in the settings used to print the PDF.
      Note:
    • The name of the setting to check varies depending on the DFE type.
      • For Fiery, the name of the setting is CMYK source. To change the CMYK source, open the Job Properties dialog and select COLOR in the left pane.
      • For the TotalFlow Print Server, the name of the setting is CMYK input profile. To change the CMYK input profile, open the Job Properties dialog and select Color in the left pane.
  2. In the Reprint After Color Matching section, select how to adjust the number of pixels that are excluded from processing.
    1. Select the Settings button.
      The Settings dialog is displayed.
    2. To select a numeric value for the Color Tolerance, use the slider by dragging the control from one end of the bar to another. Increasing the value might improve the output color on the areas with similar colors. However, increasing the value too much might reduce the Color Sample Matching accuracy.

      Minimum: 1

      Maximum: 6

      Default: 1

The selected value is displayed next to the slider.
    3. To select a numeric value for the Edge Detection, use the slider by dragging the control from one end of the bar to another. The lower the value, the lower the number of edges identified and the lower the amount of image data to be processed. Therefore, increasing the Edge Detection value might improve the color of images with a grainy texture. However, increasing the value too much might reduce the Color Sample Matching accuracy.

      Minimum: 1

      Maximum: 6

      Default: 1

The selected value is displayed next to the slider.
    4. Select the Color Distance from the list to specify the calculation method for color differences. ΔE00 is preferred for improved accuracy in reflecting human color perception, while ΔE76 is simpler but less precise.
      Default: ΔE76
  3. In the Reprint After Color Matching section, select the CMYK Source Profile profile checked in step 1.
      Note:
    • To add a profile, select the AddAdd button button, and then select the profile you want to add.
  4. Check the rendering intent that was selected in the settings for printing the PDF.
      Note:
    • The name of the setting to check varies depending on the DFE type.
      • For Fiery, the name of the setting is CMYK rendering intent. To change the CMYK rendering intent, open the Job Properties dialog and select COLOR in the left pane.
      • For the TotalFlow Print Server, the name of the setting is Rendering intent. To change the Rendering intent, open the Job Properties dialog and select Color in the left pane.
  5. In the Reprint After Color Matching section, select the CMYK Rendering Intent checked in step .
      Note:
    • If you used Photographic when printing with Fiery, select Perceptual in the RICOH Auto Color Adjuster.
    • If you used Presentation when printing with Fiery, select Saturation in the RICOH Auto Color Adjuster.
  6. In the Reprint After Color Matching section, select Execute Color Matching.
The color matching process starts, and a profile is created. Wait for the process to finish. When the color matching process is complete, the processed image is displayed in the Reprint After Color Matching section.
  7. Check the calculated average color deviation after color matching is applied.Checking the calculated average color deviation after color matching
      Note:
    • The calculated average color deviation is derived from averaging the color deviation values of all pixels in the image.
  8. Check the color deviation on the color deviation map.
    1. Select Show ΔE Map.
The color deviation map is displayed, and the button label changes to Hide ΔE Map.
    2. Check the deviation of colors.Checking the deviation of colors
        Note:
      • The color deviation is calculated by subtracting the value of paper color and truncating the decimals.
      • The brighter area in the map indicates the color of a larger deviation.
    3. Select Hide ΔE Map.
  9. Optional: Save the files containing the measurement data of the original and scanned golden sample.
    1. To save the files containing the measurement data of the original and scanned golden sample, select Save on the upper-left side of the Color Sample Matching dialog.
    2. If the folder where you want to save the data is not yet created, select New Folder in the Select Folder dialog. Then enter the name of the new folder.
    3. Select the folder where you want to save the data and click Select Folder.
The application saves the data to the selected folder.
  10. To save the profile, select Save on the lower-right side of the Color Sample Matching dialog. The format of the file name assigned to a profile is Match_yyyymmddhhmm.icc. Change it as required.
  11. To improve the quality of color reproducibility, you might consider repeating the entire color sample matching process starting with printing another set of reference samples.
  12. Select Exit.
The color matching process is completed, and the profile is saved.
