Frequent Paper Jams

If paper jams occur frequently, inspect the paper condition, confirm proper placement on the paper input tray, and verify that the paper size is appropriate.

Paper Condition

Items to check Solution
Is the paper wrinkled, bent, or curled?
  • Do not use wrinkled, bent, or ripped paper.
  • If the paper is heavily curled, flatten it before placing it on the paper input tray.
Is the paper within the supported size or thickness range? Place only paper that meets the supported size and thickness on the paper input tray.

For details about the paper specifications, see Paper Specifications.

Does the paper have a high moisture content? Print on paper that is stored in a dry environment.

Store color samples received from customers in a plastic bag to protect them from moisture.

Are the sheets of paper sticking together? If loading multiple sheets of paper on the input tray, fan them thoroughly beforehand.

For details, see Placing a Sample or Color Chart on the Input Tray.

Paper Placement on the Paper Input Tray

Items to check Solution
Are the paper guides too loose or too tight against the paper? Adjust the paper guides to match the size of the paper.
Is the paper input tray being used correctly?
  • Position the scanner so that the paper input tray and the paper are not touching any nearby walls or objects.
  • If using paper longer than A4 in portrait orientation, pull out the extension tray to support the excess length.
Are there too many sheets of paper on the paper input tray? Place the paper on the input tray so that it does not exceed the upper limit indicator Upper limit indicator.

Paper Size

Items to check Solution
If paper jams occur frequently when using the Quick Color Adjustment function, check if the size of the color chart matches the size selected in the Measurement Settings section. In the Measurement Settings section, check that the size specified for Quick Color Adjustment matches the size of the paper used to print the color chart.

If the sizes do not match, print the color chart on paper with the specified size, or specify a paper size that matches the size of your color chart.

For details, see RICOH Auto Color Adjuster: Installation Guide.

If paper jams occur frequently when using the Color Sample Matching function, check the following items:
  • Does the paper size of the hard copy sample match the paper size or the Sub-Scan Length specified in the Hard Copy Sample section?
  • Does the paper size of the printed reference sample match the paper size or the Sub-Scan Length specified in the Printed Reference Sample section?
  • Are you using a small custom-size paper, defined as 275 mm (11.3 inches) wide × 230 mm (9.1 inches) long or smaller?
  • Specify the correct paper size of the hard copy sample in the Hard Copy Sample section before scanning it.
  • Specify the correct paper size of the printed reference sample in the Printed Reference Sample section before scanning it.
  • Change the orientation of the paper loaded on the scanner input tray, specify the corresponding Sub-Scan Length, and select Scan.

For details, see Preparing Data for Color Matching.

If paper jams occur frequently when using the Colorimetry function, is the paper size of the printed chart the same as the Page Size of the selected chart? Check whether the Page Size of the selected colorimetry chart matches the paper size used for printing the chart.

If these sizes do not match, use paper of the appropriate size when printing the colorimetry chart, or select a colorimetry chart that corresponds to the size of the physical paper.

For details, see Viewing the Chart Characteristics.

    Note:
  • Enter the paper length along the sub-scan direction in the Measurement Settings section and in the Sub-Scan Length field.
