Error and Warning Messages

This section lists some error and warning messages that can appear while using the Color Sample Matching function, and the solutions for fixing the issues.

Message Cause Solution
Failed to start the Color Sample Matching function. Restart the application and try again. If the error persists, contact your service representative. An internal error has occurred. Restart the application. If the error persists, restart the computer.

If the error still persists, contact your service representative.

The CMYK source profile has not been selected. Select the CMYK source profile used for printing the reference sample. Then, try again. There is no CMYK Source Profile selected in the Color Matching section. In the Color Matching section, select the CMYK Source Profile used when printing the reference sample in the settings of the printer. For details, see Creating an ICC Profile.
The application failed to align the image from the PDF source file with the scanned image. Place the correct sheet in the paper input tray and try again. The image selected in the PDF Source File section is not valid for color matching. Color matching is not possible on some images such as an image that is a solid color or a design of line or rotation symmetry. Check that the specified image is supported. For details, see Supported File Formats.
The scanned hard copy sample or printed reference sample does not match the image displayed in the PDF Source File section. Scan a hard copy sample or printed reference sample that matches the image displayed in PDF Source File.
The area or orientation of the image scanned in the Hard Copy Sample section and in the Printed Reference Sample section does not match the area or orientation selected in the Select Area dialog from the PDF Source File section. Select the same image in the Select Area dialog from the Hard Copy Sample and Printed Reference Sample sections as the image selected in the PDF Source File section. Then, select the same area and orientation as those selected in the PDF Source File section. For details, see Selecting the Area and Orientation.
The color matching process has failed. Restart the application and try again. One or more settings are incorrect. Review the settings and try again.
You are not allowed to overwrite the predefined CMYK source profiles. Rename your CMYK source file and try again. The file name of the CMYK Source Profile is already in use and you cannot replace the file. You are not allowed to overwrite the pre-installed files.

Rename the file and try again.

You are not allowed to delete the predefined CMYK source profiles. You tried to delete a pre-installed file that is displayed in the CMYK Source Profile field of the Color Matching section. You are not allowed to delete the pre-installed files.

Either the color space is not supported or the file has been corrupted. Select a valid PDF file that uses the CMYK color space.

  • A file whose color space is not CMYK is selected in the CMYK Source Profile field of the Color Matching section.
  • The selected CMYK Source Profile file is corrupted.
  • A file with an unsupported format is selected in the PDF Source File section, or the file is corrupted.
  • Check whether you can open the file in the application for your DFE or another application.
  • Select another file in the CMYK Source Profile field of the Color Matching section, and then check that the file works properly.
  • Select a file whose color space is CMYK. To view the color space information of a profile, use an application that can display the profile information. You can read the profile information and confirm the color space information using the ICC Profile Inspector that is provided by ICC (International Color Consortium), for example. The application is free for use and available for download at ICC Profile Inspector (https://www.color.org/profileinspector.xalter).
  • Check whether the Color Sample Matching function supports the used file type.

  • Check whether you can open the file in another application for reading PDF files.
  • Load another file in the PDF Source File section to see if the image from that file is displayed correctly.
The file name or path contains at least one invalid character. Select a valid file name and path. Then, try again. A multibyte alphanumeric character in the file name is entered when saving the profile. Use single-byte alphanumeric characters in the file name.
The maximum number of 15 scanned hard copy sample pages has been reached. Delete unnecessary hard copy sample data, then try again. You try to execute color matching using more than 15 pages of a hard copy sample. The maximum number of hard copy sample pages that can be scanned is 15. Delete the less important scanned pages. In the PDF Source File section, use the Previous Page button Previous Page button and the Next Page button Next Page button to go to the pages that you want to delete. In the Hard Copy Sample or Printed Reference Sample section, select Delete.
PDF rasterization has failed. Select a valid PDF file format and try again. The PDF file format is invalid or unsupported. Use a valid and supported PDF file format.

If the error persists, contact your service representative.

The file name or path contains at least one invalid character. Select a valid file name and path. Then, try again.
  • The file or folder name uses characters that do not exist in the Shift-JIS code.
  • The file or folder name uses old Chinese characters.
  • Change the file or folder name to use single-byte characters.
  • Make sure that the file or folder name does not use old Chinese characters.
  • Make sure that the file or folder name does not use characters that do not exist in the Shift-JIS code.
