Planning for file systems in a multiple primary servers environment

A multiple primary servers environment uses shared NFS storage hosted on a dedicated file server. All servers access this shared storage to ensure data availability during normal operation and failover.

The file server requires sufficient storage capacity to handle the data generated by RICOH ProcessDirector.

Several factors influence storage requirements.

Job volume
Job volume determines how much spool space you need. Each job creates files in the spool directory that remain until the job completes and retention policies remove them. High-volume environments with large jobs require more storage than low-volume environments with small jobs.
Retention periods
Retention periods affect how long completed job data remains on the system. Longer retention periods require more storage because historical data accumulates over time.
Control files
Control files and resources consume storage space that remains relatively constant. Transform resources, fonts, and forms occupy space in the control directory. The size depends on how many resources your workflows require.
Log files
Log files grow continuously as the system operates. Regular log rotation and archival prevent logs from consuming excessive storage, but you should allocate sufficient space for operational logs. Plan for growth by selecting a storage system that supports online expansion. This capability allows you to increase storage capacity without taking the system offline.
