topas

The topas command is a performance monitoring tool that is ideal for broad spectrum performance analysis. The topas command runs in a terminal window and does not have any options for logging information. All information is real time.

Use this command to watch while a system is operating to determine what subsystem should be examined and which processes are doing the most work.

The topas command gives this information:

  • CPU utilization
  • Network Interface Statistics
  • Disk drive statistics
  • Process statistics
  • Event and queue statistics
  • File and tty statistics
  • Paging statistics
  • Memory statistics
  • NFS statistics

The topas command can be invoked simply by specifying topas on the command line. The command also has a number of attributes and subcommands that can be used. See the documentation listed in Useful AIX commands and tools for more details on the topas command.
