BSD printer

Create a BSD actual destination when you need to configure a terminating transform at the actual destination, create an exit for your own use, or when no other DSS is suitable. The BSD DSS gives you less control of the printer and reports less accurate job status than the other DSSs.

Before creating a BSD printer, complete this worksheet.

Wizard prompt Description Value
Name The name for the actual destination object.  
Server The InfoPrint server that controls this actual destination.  
SNMP TCP/IP address The IP address used to access this printer. This value is used only for SNMP printers.

This field should be left blank if you are using InfoPrint Manager (lprafp) LPR as the printer backend.

  
Printer command The command to issue to submit a job to this remote destination. Typically, this is a call to the InfoPrint Manager (lprafp) LPR command. For example, /usr/lpp/psf/utils/lpr/LPR -A -s serverName -p printerName.  
Logical destination The logical destination that directs jobs to this actual destination.

You can accept the default LD, use another existing LD, or create a new one for this printer.

Logical destination's server The InfoPrint server that contains the logical destination.  
Queue The queue that holds jobs destined for this actual destination. If you selected a new LD, you get these three options:

To create this type of printer, use the Create Printer Wizard in the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI. (On the menu bar, click Printer → Create → BSD.)

Note: If the Create BSD printer option is not shown in the Printer menu, you can add it to the menu using the customize options in the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI. Select the Customize option from the Options menu to open the Customize dialog. Click the Printer tab and select the Menu checkbox for BSD printer. Click OK to apply your change and close the dialog. The Create BSD printer option displays in the Printer menu.

The BSD DSS is capable of mapping InfoPrint Manager job and document attributes to options for your destination command. InfoPrint Manager uses the values in the attribute-map attribute to map InfoPrint Manager job and document attributes to options that append the destination-command value. This provides a way to customize the options passed from InfoPrint Manager to your destination command. Each value of the attribute map consists of an InfoPrint Manager attribute name, a colon, and a string containing the option flag to which the attribute maps. InfoPrint Manager appends the value of the attribute after the option flag in the generated command. For more information about the attribute-map attribute works, see BSD DSS.

If you did not enable the printer with the Create Printer Wizard, use the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI to enable it.
